Home Refresh with Essential Oils

We love our oils and we ain’t afraid to tell everyone! So this week I’m sharing a few ways we use them around our house as well as some refreshing diffuser blends that will leave everyone who walks into your home saying “it smells amazing in here!”

A few reasons we love essential oils are:

  • They’re non-toxic! this is HUGE for me because we have a 3-year-old who still sometimes licks the floor and who def still eats off the floor on a regular basis. Also because we have a furbaby who also licks and eats off the floor. Using non-toxic cleaners ensures that they aren’t ingesting any harmful chemicals into their precious little bodies.
  • They support our immune systems
  • Fewer products to buy!

Now let’s into refreshing our homes, we use our oils for all cleaning purposes in  our home. From toilets and floors to counters and laundry oils take care of it all.

Carpet Refresher

The fastest way to make a carpeted room feel clean and fresh is to vacuum but what if I told you that with one more step, the rooms in your home could not only feel fresher but they could smell good too! All you need for this is baking soda and 10-15 drops of your favorite oils.

A few of my favorite combos are:

  • Purification + Orange
  • Thieves + Tangerine
  • Grapefruit + Purification
  • Lavender + Peppermint
  • Lemon + Lemongrass

All you need to do is mix 1/2 cup of baking soda with 10-15 drops of oil, sprinkle it on your carpet, let it sit anywhere from 30 minutes to overnight then vacuum it up and you’re done!

This isn’t just for carpeted rooms only, you can use it on area rugs too!

My Current Favorite Diffuser Blends

One thing you’ll always find when you come to my house is a diffuser running. I just love walking into a home that not only smells good but also that makes me feel good through aroma therapy.

  • Geranium + Grapefruit + Orange

This is one I love just because it smells so good! It’s citrus-y and floraly all the same time. This is my go to we’re having company over blend.

  • Lemon + Lavender + Peppermint + Eucalyptus + Tea Tree

This blend just smells clean to me so it’s often the blend you’ll smell in our home on a Saturday or Sunday morning. Lavender is relaxing while Lemon and Peppermint give you a little extra pep in your step. While Eucalyptus and Tea Tree gives off positive clean feels with their anti-bacterial properties.

  • Purification + Grapefruit

Another one that smells incredible… Purification will take away any type of yucky kitchen smell and Grapefruit is a mood booster as well an air purifier.

  • Eucalyptus + Lavender

This little dream team is what relaxing nights after the beach are made of. Oh my word how I love these two together.

  • Lemongrass + Eucalyptus + Stressaway

Truthfully I just discovered this blend yesterday and I put it in my diffuser when I came home for lunch. Then I got to enjoy my kitchen and living room smelling so good as well as a relaxing environment when I got home from work.

  • Lavender + Frankincense + Stressaway

The first place we started diffusing oils was at night for sleep and now I never want to sleep without them. The other night I got home super late from a long weekend away and I was going back to work the next morning. I knew I needed to sleep well so, I put these three in my diffuser. While I only got to sleep from 2am until 7am I felt pretty refreshed when I work up.

Cleaning Recipes

I used to be a lover of cleaning products. I felt like if my bathroom didn’t smell like bleach or some other cleaning agent that it wasn’t clean. I tried not to use heavy stuff on the floors because as mentioned above dogs and kiddo at home. The thing is I never felt like my floors were really clean because I wasn’t using the heavy stuff. That’s until I started using my oils. I use these two recipes when the mess is really bad or when I may have waited just a little too long in between bathroom cleanings. Just keepin’ it real people.

Lemon Soft Scrub

The first is an alternative to Soft Scrub. I use this for the bathtub, shower, and even our toilets. It also works great in the kitchen for the stink, fridge and stove.

  • 15 drops Lemon oil
  • 1.5 cups Baking soda
  • 6 TBS Thieves Household Cleaner
  • 3 TBS Water

The first thing to remember is when you’re mixing this up you need to do so in a glass or stainless steel container. After that all you need to do is mix it all together. and store it in a glass or metal jar. Shake it and pour on desired cleaning area,  scrub with a scrub brush and watch your surface get clean without any chemicals.

“Bleach”

You know when you know better you do better and that’s great but when it comes to cleaning there are just times when you need you some bleach. Thanks to this amazing oil community I found a recipe for some all natural bleach that I tweaked a little to make it work perfectly!

  • 3 cups Water
  • 1/2 cup Peroxide
  • 2T Lemon Juice
  • 2 caps Thieves Household Cleaner
  • 10-20 drops Lemon oil depending on how lemon-y you want it

I mix this in a gallon size glass drink dispenser but if you leave out the lemon oil you could put it in a plastic spray bottle. You could also half this recipe to put it in a spray bottle (if you do this either way shake before use).

It’s pretty safe to say that we’ve drank the kool-aide and we’re never turning back. I know I can feel good when I’m cleaning my house and my most used cleaning product (Thieves Household Cleaner) says “drink plenty of water if ingested.” How cool is that? I no longer have to be fearful about cleaning while my kiddo is around and he and the dogs can lick the floor as much as they please. If you’re wondering how YOU can get started with essiential oils Young Living is having an incredible deal right now.
